Build your profile
Your profile is the foundation of everything in TailorFit. It is a full picture of your background: where you have worked, what you have built, what you know, and what kind of work you do well. Every resume TailorFit generates for you starts from this.
Starting the conversation
When you first sign in, TailorFit will walk you through building your profile. It is a guided conversation, not a form with boxes to fill in.
The conversation covers:
- Your work history: roles, companies, and how long you were there
- What you built and shipped at each job
- The skills and tools you have worked with
- What you want to do next
Be specific. "Led the migration of our monolith to microservices, cutting deploy time from 40 minutes to 8" is more useful than "worked on backend infrastructure."
Importing an existing resume
If you already have a resume, you can import it instead of building from scratch. TailorFit supports PDF, DOCX, and Google Drive documents. It will extract your experience and populate your profile from what is already there. See Import your resume for the full walkthrough.
What makes a strong profile
- Include specific outcomes where you have them. Numbers, scale, and results carry weight.
- Mention the kind of work you enjoy. TailorFit uses this to frame your experience toward roles that are a better fit.
- If you are targeting more than one direction, include context for each in your profile.
Updating your profile
You can edit your profile at any time from the My Profile section. Resumes you have already generated are not retroactively changed. They stay as they were, attached to the application they were tailored for.
